Today we discussed how graphs can be misleading.
Homework: Complete problems 1, 2, 4, 5 from page 204-205 in the textbook and Worksheet 5.1 problems 1-15, 18, 19, 21-28.

Today you learned how to draw line graphs. [Do not forget the TALK rule when doing your homework]
Homework: Complete the handout provided in class and do problems 1-5 on page 191-192 in the textbook.

Thursday, May 17th:
Today you learned how to calculate the mean (or the average) of a data and then looked at some applications of mean, median, mode.
Homework: Complete problems #1-7 on page 200-201 in the textbook and complete problems 2, 3, 6 and 7 from the handout given out in class.

Wednesday, May 16th:
Today you learned how to draw Leaf and Stem Plots. You learned about range, median and mode.
Homework: Complete problems 1-6 on page 182-183 in the textbook. You also need to complete the class handout.

Tuesday, May 15th:
Today you wrote a test and after that you learned some basic terms in data management and how to record data using frequency table, pictographs and bar graphs.
Homework: Complete problems #1, 3, 4, 5 (Choose any five province of Canada) and 7 on page 176.

Today you learned how to construct triangle (SSS, SAS and AAS).

Homework: Complete problems 1-6 page 240, #4 on page 228, #1 on page 219, #6 on page 220, #2,6,9 on page 222, #1-3 on page 99-100 and #7 on page 108.

Today you wrote a quiz and then learned about metric conversion.

Today you learned how to calculate perimeter and reviewed area of 2D shapes.
Homework: Please complete worksheet 3.4 to study for the quiz tomorrow.

Friday, April 27th:
Today you learned how to calculate the area of compound shapes.
Homework: Please complete worksheet 3.3.
Summary of the lesson:
Step 1: Break apart the compound shape into simpler shapes and draw these shapes.
Step 2: Determine and write down the dimensions of each shape from the previous step.
Step 3: Find the area of each shape.
Step 4: Add (or subtract) the area of the shapes above.
Step 5: Write a "therefore" statement.

Thursday, April 26th:
Today you learned how to calculate the area of triangles.
Homework: Please complete worksheet 3.2, then do problem #6 on page 219-220 and #4, 5, 9 (area only) on page 229.

Wednesday, April 25th:
Today you learned how to calculate the area of triangles.
Homework: Please complete the handout (3.5) given in class and work out problems 1-7 from page 223 in the textbook.

Tuesday, April 24th:
Today you wrote a quiz and then we discussed how to use variables to solve word problems.

Today we discussed some important homework problems and after that you learned how to calculate volumes of rectangular prisms.
Homework: Please complete page 2 of Handout 3.4 given in class and do problems 1-7 on page 223 from the textbook.
Reminder: There is a quiz tomorrow on drawing 3-D models on a dot grid, views of a solid from top, front, sides etc. and calculating surface areas.

Thursday, April 19th:
Today you learned how to draw 3-D picture from a net.
Homework: For homework please complete any pending homework you may have.

Wednesday, April 18th:
Today you learned how to calculate areas of parallelograms and surface area of a rectangular prism using nets.
Homework: For homework please do the following.
  1. Cut out the nets given in class
  2. Complete worksheet 3.1 and,
  3. Do problems in the textbook on page 99-100 #1-3, 8, 11 and 12.
  • All handouts can be found in the Unit 3 tab.

Tuesday, April 17th:

Homework: Textbook page 86 #1-4.

Monday, April 16th:
Today you learned how to draw 3D objects on a dot grid and then draw it from different views.
Homework: Textbook page 79 #1-4, 6-9.
Please make a note of a few things while doing your homework.
1. Page 80 #2, make sure you match each shape with as many pictures from J-Q as you can.
2. Page 80 #3, you must show your work on a dot grid.
3. Page 80 #4, using a dot grid will be helpful.
